Coaching Conference at University of St. Gallen, 11-12 September 2019

Reflection in Action: Coaching in Management and Leadership Education

In September 2019, the conference “Reflection in Action: Coaching in Management and Leadership education” brought together leading experts in the field of coaching. HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management and the University of St. Gallen have thus taken a joint step towards promoting scientific exchange on current coaching topics - and all this against a beautiful Swiss mountain setting in St. Gallen. Renowned experts from six countries engaged in lively discussions about the notion of the Socratic teacher, coaching as a powerspace and different concepts of reflection in action. Prof. Henry Mintzberg, Professor of Management Studies at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, put his view crystal clear: “Coaching is the reflection of experience in the light of good concepts.” The conference was also attended by some of the coaches of the HHL competency coaching New Leipzig Talents. One of the key insights for further improving the program was the emphasis on openness and curiosity instead of a one-size-fits-all approach.
